In every family, in every love story, in every midnight ER visit, there’s someone holding everything together with trembling hands and a quiet kind of courage. This space is for them. For us.

I’m Rae Byers — photographer, partner, caregiver, soft-spoken storm-weatherer. My husband, Tony, survived a traumatic brain injury, and the impact changed the shape of our world. Some days he moves like lightning; some days his legs shake so hard he collapses into me. And most days, we find ourselves building a life out of tenderness, humor, grit, and the kind of love that keeps choosing itself in the dark.

This blog isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being human when responsibility tries to make you superhuman. It’s about naming the feelings caregivers swallow because they don’t want to be “too much” when they’re already doing so much.

It’s the diary I wish I had when everything started. The place where the supporters — the spouses, partners, helpers, watchers, midnight-warriors — finally get to speak.

If you’ve ever held someone up while they were falling apart… If you’ve ever cried in the shower so you could be brave again in the kitchen… If you’ve ever carried love like a full backpack and still showed up smiling…

Welcome home.
